Hi, my name is Florentina. I am a junior at Patrick Henry High School. Over the summer, I worked for an organization called the Green Team. It is a two year working program, where we pull out invasive species in our community parks, and learn about our Mississippi River. This is where I heard all about Girls Design the World. It sounded very interesting at first—a group of girls working together to help our communities, and the chance to work with girls from Kenya. I thought it sounded like a great opportunity, so I signed up. At first it was awkward, and a bit scary, but when I got to know the girls more, they were all amazing to work with.

Through this experience, I hope to become more outgoing and work on my fear of public speaking. I also want to take this chance to try something new and get out of my comfort zone. I think that a program like this helps young ladies like us to understand what is happening in our community and our world. The process of figuring out how to help makes us feel empowered and important. It builds our self-esteem and in the end, we are proud of what we have achieved.
